The roses presented here are a collection of plants that are either locally available or from mail order sources. 

While most of these roses are shrubs or old garden roses, because of climate change in recent years we can enjoy growing plants that previously were only hardy in warmer zones.

When we think of February, we naturally think about Valentines Day and of course Red Roses! The attached program features red roses that are recommended by rosarians living in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Winter Protection for Roses in the North Central District (zone 4 and zone 5)

It is a beautiful sunny morning in August as I write this article on protecting our roses for winter. Living in Wisconsin, I know that fall will be here before we know it. Just as people and critters change their habits and plan for colder temperatures, so do plants. Before we talk about “how” to protect our roses, let’s begin by understanding “why”.
